An Interview with Bill Donnelly
Bill Donnelly is a New York-based sound professional with a career that spans recording studios, movie sets, and locations most people will never get near. He works across sound design, foley, and on-location audio for film and television, and has worked alongside members of Wu-Tang Clan as well as major TV and movie productions. What makes Bill's perspective valuable is that he operates across multiple disciplines within the audio world. He understands the music side, the post-production side, and the technical demands of capturing sound in the real world when there's no second take. That crossover is rare, and it gives him a different way of thinking about audio than most people in any single one of those roles. In this conversation, we get into what that career actually looks like day to day, how those different worlds connect, and what musicians and producers can learn from the way professionals in film and TV approach sound. Bill is also a good friend & he invited me over to New York a few years ago to play a few shows he'd setup. Again he's a guy with fingers in a lot of pies! The end of the interview is a bit abrupt as someone knocks his door & his dog went a bit crazy lol So I've edited that out. We'll be talking to Bill again. This is just a bit of an introduction.
